ICOSAHEDRAL SKY

This artwork is composed of 120 individual Light dome inspired by an icosahedral shape design to create a highly reflective surface. The bespoke content of this installation is driven by the current weather condition, including wind speed and direction on the top of the seasonal shade of colors.
This suspended installation aims to imitate the sky by creating a relaxing canopy above the waiting area in the lobby of the building.

As a short term project, this installation has been really interesting to work on as the decisions had to be taken quickly.
On this project, I have designed the entire hanging system of the light unit, all the assembly plans, managed the assembly of the light units and supervise the assembly on-site.
I really enjoyed working on this project as I had to used some old technical course, to be able to combine the elegant design of the Light dome, the lightness, and the balance point of the object, to make the light unit stand vertically.
The light unit was designed in a way that it could be assembled and disassembled by both ends, to be able to facilitate maintenance if needed in the future.

The key point for me was to design a smart system that will be easy to assemble in-house or on-site, with the minimum amount of tools and parts.
